Week 3B Part 2: Classmate Comments & 5 Businesses

I commented on the following blogs regarding Communication Between Business & Customer.

Below are my examples of 5 businesses websites using Social Media.

1.) Lululemon

It appears that this company posts at least once a day on Instagram and posts at least once, if not twice a day on Facebook. Twitter appears to be used every couple days.

2.) FOX 5 San Diego

I chose my place of work because although it's a television station, it's also a business. Since so many people are turning to their phone screens for information, FOX 5 is constantly posting several times a day on all three platforms. Twitter and Instagram are used the most.

3.) FOX 21 News

I chose another TV station, located in Colorado Springs. It's a smaller market size but I think it's obvious the difference in use of social media between this station and my other example. Instagram is rarely used and doesn't generate a lot of interaction when there are posts. Facebook seems to do the best for this station.

4.) VG Donut & Bakery (the best donuts ever)

This is THE best donut place in San Diego and it happens to be in my hometown. It's a small mom and pop style donut shop and they've been around for years. Their use of social media appears to be growing but they don't post often. Most posts seems to be pictures of treats regarding special holiday or themed goodies they have. I'm curious how much social media they could actually do and if it would make a difference given the nature of their business.

5.) Hansens Surfboards

I chose another local business that sells surfboards and anything beach related. This is another example of a small local business that's been around for years and has only begun to really use social media. I noticed they post on Facebook more than Instagram and they do make posts on Twitter pretty frequently. Instagram appears to be once a day or every couple days. That being said, they have another account specifically for women which posts everyday, sometimes multiple times a day.

After taking a look at these five different businesses and assessing how they each utilize social media, it's clear that some businesses are far more along than others. Of course, the television stations post everyday, multiple times a day because they're delivering news which is constant. For others, I don't think a business necessarily has to post multiple times a day in order for it to be successful. I think as long as a company is posting at least once a day, on all social media platforms, that could be enough.

I think that every business should be using social media in some way or another. I don't believe you necessarily have to be an expert at it, but I think having a presence at least let's your customer/consumer know you're available to reach. I do believe that the future is going to be digital and with more and more people relying on their phones for information, and with an app for nearly everything now, the days of picking up phones and calling are slowly dwindling.
